I cannot even express how awful this movie was. The only reasons I finished it were that I paid to see it, the scenery was fantastic (I love & miss Scotland), and CF is so good looking. The writing and the acting were AWFUL!!!! The basic story line could have been good. It was quite clever WHY - it was later revealed - she started her trip at this particular place in Scotland. Everything around that basic script was awful! There was so much that was unbelievable. The snappy repartee was unbelievably less than snappy! The sexual banter was even worse! It was unbelievable that KLG's character wore an off the shoulder dress and strappy sandals all the way from America to Scotland!?!?! It was unbelievable that CF's character drove a convertible that leaked so much petrol he had to put on coveralls and yet his guest was ok in her one and only coat? Then the car problem was never mentioned again! It was unbelievable that KLG's character would stand on a balcony in her short night shirt flirting in front of two male strangers on the second day she was at the inn. That was so weird!!!!! It was unbelievable that KLG's character would quickly fix plumbing that the plumber could not while CF's character was afraid to go in the basement. (Was she in that night shirt and barefooted when she fixed it?) KLG's scene of singing in the tub looked like a fish flopping around on the bottom of a boat. KLG's acting was particularly bad. (I was embarrassed FOR her!) CF needs to go back to late night as that's what he's good at. Or somebody please give that man a good script to work with. The whole alcohol thread was weirdly handled. I wonder why CF agreed to that as he, I believe I remember, has addiction issues. The only reason you should watch this movie is to see just how awful it is! P.S. Does this review contain spoilers, you ask? There is no way one could spoil this movie any more than it already is.
I loved this film. I hadn't heard of Ms Kathie Lee Gifford, but I have to say she is as beautiful as she is talented. The script was flawless, very little schmaltz & a great deal of fun. The two.leads were brilliant together with the added talent of the chap who played Gavin, he was fantastic. Ms Gifford also wrote all the songs and performed one or two, Whiskey and Wine is a particularly catchy little number, you could imagine Frank and Nancy Sinatra or Dean Martin and Barbara Streisand doing this as a duet. A thoroughly enjoyable film, yes the ending is predictable by Ferguson stays cynical & dower enough for even the most macho of men to sit through with their wives.
