It's not often lately that i sit through an entire Movie at home from start to finish, but it was easy and enjoyable to do while watching As Night Comes! I thought the story was well told and enjoyed the use of flashbacks so that I did not know what had happened until it was revealed to me. I thought the talent did a good job, you could feel and imagine their angst, vulnerability and emotion. I appreciated how the Director and DP shot the film with what I imagine was probably a limited budget. I have already recommended this movie to others and will continue to do so. If you are looking for a coming of age film where the characters deal with real consequences to their actions then As Night Comes is the right movie for you!
Reminiscent of Clockwork Orange and the Class of 1984 the film creates its own universe that is too familiar to our own. Too many reports of a charismatic person drawing in a crowd who will follow no matter where the path will lead. Very good cast with a standout leading performance who is unlike the leads in other films with this subject. Makes you wince while you are locking the doors. Richard Zelniker does an excellent job creating this environment and making this film look rich in color and mood.
I really enjoyed this movie. it's a great example of storytelling that is honest and raw. and I really appreciate the subject matter. It's bold. In addition to bold subject matter, the acting is really great and as intense as the storyline. I felt like there was a lot at stake and it held my attention the whole time, I really appreciate a story that can do that. Richard Zelniker is a very talented director and his film goes a long way into exploring the darker side of teen angst. The direction is great. I'm glad I saw this one!
Finally, a movie that makes me think! A nonstop ride, from our children's perspective. This movie shows what goes on behind the scenes. Our kids only tell us what we want to hear. Maybe as parents we should start asking more questions, and being more involved. Very well done, highly recommended. I like the way that the film was done, very clean technique, with many different angles. Characters were well portrayed throughout the entire film length. The dialogue was realistic and very well written. A must see movie for teenagers who feel lost, and don't have anywhere to turn. All aspects of this film kept my attention, and made me feel like I was watching the scene right in front of my eyes. It made me wonder if I really knew everything that goes on with my kids.
Awful writing, bad acting, and lousy directing makes this one of the worst movies I've ever seen...and I've seen a lot. "Look at me, look at me, I watched Clockwork Orange once and now I think I'm Kubrick!" is what this movie seems to say. You're not Kubrick, bro. This movie doesn't come close. It seems to have been written by a group of 12 year olds who never actually experienced adolescence who hero worship those kids who shot up Columbine. The dialogue is awful, the "roof moment" is some of the dumbest, self important baloney I've ever heard, and the kid who plays Ricky is about as believable as a talking rat. Watch this movie if you'd like to see a bunch of people in black clothing walking down the street very slowly while the camera shoots their feet because it's "soooo artistic!" Blech.
Important movies like this do not come along very often anymore. Unlike a lot of other movies that rely on a simple plot mixed with sex and violence, this movie is character driven and successfully relies on its storytelling. It is one of the few movies out there that directly and realistically faces a very serious issue in society today. ALL parents, teachers, principals and guidance counselors need to watch this movie and directly discuss what is happening in out society today. A must see, it is a conversation our society need to be having! Well paced a intelligently crafted to give you dynamics that come from the characters emotions keeps the story moving. Few movies today discuss real issues that are relevant to what we need to be discussing as a society.
The folks who gave this movie a great review have watched a different movie. Firstly, the main brain dead character Sean follows these group of Neanderthals around the entire movie. Only discovering at strategic points that they are nothing but a pack of sick morons. Yet, he still sticks with the pack through all their juvenile deeds the entire time. I'm happy I didn't watch to the end as my tolerance level for stupidity, weak story lines and bad acting is just too low when it comes to my movies. Watching paint dry would have provided more entertainment. I have now resorted to going on other forums for reviews. I can no longer depend or put any trust in IMDb's reviews. This waste of human resources should have been called 'As the zombies come'. Mainly because there was not 1 independent mind in the bunch.
A teen genre film that doesn't disappoint. We all can relate to the jocks, the preppies, and the outcasts, and the sometimes difficult transition period of high school. Newcomer, Sean, the son of two hopeless alcoholics drifts, with a group of outcasts, led by the charismatic creeper, Ricky Gladstone. Sean has his eyes on preppy Sarah, who runs with the jocks. There lies the dilemma. Does Sean clean up his act and go with Sarah, or wreak havoc with Ricky and his band of outcasts on mischief night? Good performances by newcomers, Myko Oliver, who plays Sean, and Luke Baines, who plays Ricky. A nice study of teenage alienation, peer pressure, and the difficult choices many teens ultimately have to make that may determine the direction of their entire lives.
