A good black comedy Not formulaic formulaic. Recommended
This film is classified as an Action Comedy Drama. None of those categories applies here. There are mortician's slabs with more Comedy Action Drama than is present here. It is an amateurishly written, forgettable film with dreary hackneyed sketches which were always better done in the original. A refund is due to anyone who gave it some time. While the premise of the film may offend now, it could have been funny in the tradition of black humor, if a Spike Milligan had developed it, but this is anemic and worst of all, dull. It has no verve nor spark at all. It is pointless. It's curious that it was produced; but somehow this was made and without a scintilla of invention or value. There are many better choices to make.
Honestly I didn't think I would enjoy this movie and watched it simply because I was bored. This movie pleasantly surprised me. All the characters were very fleshed out and likable, even the hitman. I was not pleased with the ending feeling it needed a definite answer to if he died or not but that's just my opinion. Overall I don't see this movie being a hit but it is definitely worth a watch and had me interested the entire time watching.
I have always enjoyed a good dark comedy. 'Dead In A Week' is not good; it's great. The cast is spot on, especially Tom Wilkinson. I've enjoyed his work for years and think it's a pity he is not well known in the US, because he deserves to be. This is my first exposure to the young actor Aneurin Barnard and he did a fine job. The humor is clever and subtle, not slapstick and nonsensical. The writers have taken a subject that doesn't lend itself to comedy and done a wonderful job. I am sure there will be those who give the movie a thumb's down for just that reason, and that is a shame. Dead In A Week is on a par with 'Harold and Maude' and that is saying something.
Is it too much to ask that a movie makes me laugh? Not everything has to be deep, y'all. Very quirky, fun, and upbeat little movie that isn't Oscar bait but is great to watch with friends. The acting is stylistic and the camera work and writing are theme appropriate. Lay off my fluff pieces you movie snobs.
What a great film. Hilarious and clever throughout. Stellar performances across the board, not least from debut Director Tom Edmunds (also the screenwriter) who brilliantly strikes the balance of sensitivity and comedy in the portrayal of his characters. A must see.
The good news is that the writer copied one of the best movies ever, I hired a contract killer. The bad news is that I don't see Kaurismaki credited anywhere here. I am not an expert in copyright law but if this is not a copyright crime, this is absolutely unethical.
Their deadpan tongue in cheek delivery is at its best in this dark dramedy. It would be wrong to call it a comedy. It isn't about laughs. It's about I.R.O.N.Y., and irony is often a tad bit Funny and a dollop of Tragedy in a little bundle of Enjoy.
A nice dark comedy for the performance of Tom Wilkinson, the make-up of Aneurin Barnard, between a character from univers of Tim Burton and for lovely portrait of. Penny by Marillon Bailey. Fair end, maybe too sweet and too expected , romance, jokes and decent story. Nothing memorable but just nice.
