No real help for chronic insomnia. Maybe if I say this 6 years ago when it started it would have helped me not prevent moving to chronic insomnia. However, does nothing once you get there.
I see a lot of negative reviews of people claiming that either is contradictory, has disinformation, or no useful information at all. To me it's more of a relaxing conversation about sleep and practices and although some of it speculative, the whole point of the program is to actually put you to sleep or fill in for background noise. It uses delightful calm imagery with cool colors that aren't invasive. The entire time relaxing music plays in the background. I find the narrator to be quite soothing, and their english fully intelligible. I enjoy listening to someone while not necessarily thinking entirely on the topic, but just enough to keep my mind from racing. They try and utilize exercises too to promote relaxation that I find help. I think some people are watching to pick it apart when they should actually be trying to sleep.
Episodes are generally 40-70% a meditation session or taster course for their app. While they didn't plug the app, they were highly biased and suggestive about the benefits of meditation for sleep. For how short the episodes are and how long the meditation component is, the script is mostly fluff and filler material which really sucks for those looking for actual information. Although they do provide the odd statistic, the takeaway is that the scientific community genuinely don't know anything about sleep and Headspace is merely baiting curious viewers with this series. It's a fun format and a great intro to mediation for people but personally, I feel a bit mislead and honestly could have learned more by reading research.
First things first - This geniunely helped me get much needed sleep. Thank you to all of the people at headspace for putting this together. I am currently at week 4 of acute insomnia. Most nights I'm sleeping less than 2 hours, and often fall asleep and wake up in under 10 minutes. It's frustrating beyond measure; I've done all of the "right" things to help fix this - sleep hygene, diet, exercise.... all of it. What I haven't done is really take the time to try to really relax my mind before sleep. And that's exactly what this little series did. The narrator has a lovely calming voice. The animations are very soothing, and vaguely remind me of the vintage 60's and 70's cartoons from sesame street. I started the 1st episode with an open mind, relaxed, and woke up 4.5 hours later. It was wonderful. Thank you.
I found this series really useful. Generally I sleep well, but there's always room for improvement especially because better quality of sleep works wonders on our mental and physical wellbeing. There are familiar concepts on here but they are presented very well and the section on screen time and sleep quality is very timely, as this is very much a contemporary phenomenon that is not benefiting us but easily rectified if we change our habits. I have used some of the strategies to great affect. Also the narrator is well-suited for this gig as she has an amazingly-soothing voice.
Useless information, contradicting itself, nothing new here. Also the narrator is really annoying, she's not a good speaker and lacks basic English. ( even though she's actually English and so am I) I would not recommend this at all.
Unless you never went to school, have never researched anything to do with health or sleep, then this is the series for you. I learnt all of this as a 10 year old, so it was pretty much a useless waste of my time. They could've at least included more scientific findings and studies, rather that repeating facts that the majority of people (I hope) have known since childhood.
Full of disinformation. But, they cover themselves legally by saying vague statements like "linked to" or "probably not a good idea to." The biggest problem is this is it is full of confusing causation and correlation in every statement they make. There is absolutely no scientific fact here at all. It's almost like they just took some blog spam, pretty'ed it up with a good narrator, decent graphics and just hit play. If you want to just watch anything on TV because you can't stand the sound of silence then this is ok, but the actual content is pure garbage disinformation when paid attention to.
