source: Marc Maron: Too Real
Really disappointing, It was worse than season 3 of his Series "Moron". I liked the first two seasons of the series, "Maron". I think it is funny to use Incidental jabs, here and there. You went overboard, and start insulting your audience. That didn't work for Bill Hicks, you know better. You should have been standing at a podium, as this was more like a long winded sermon. Marc, You are better than this, Please work harder, and smarter on your next special. Looking forward to it.
Very thoughtful guy. Great life observations and great timing and delivery. This isn't a "one-liner" kind of guy, he is more of a storyteller. Very funny bit on Stones concert and best Mick impersonation I've seen. Highly recommend.. Another viewer complained about not being funny, but as stated above, this is a more cerebral kind of comic and you need to get involved mentally, not just wait to be spoon fed laugh lines. As for repeating the Hat bit, that was actually brilliant and apparently the other reviewer didn't quite get the innovation.
Marc Maron really outdoes himself in this Netflix special. If you are a late day post 1960 born baby boomer, you will be hooked. If you are a millennial hipster, your brain might explode from nonunderstanding. Why am I saying this? Marc's references require historical context, reflection, and knowledge that goes beyond Wikipedia. He expects you to be smart, well read, and perhaps a little paranoid. So be prepared, it's fun.
There was only one clever observation, but I didn't smile even once during the entire performance. One routine about buying a hat was lousy and yet he repeated it again right after the first time. I took a chance watching this on Netflix because it had a high rating. Don't be fooled. This is a nice enough guy, around my age, but he doesn't tell any jokes. Everything is a very long, drawn-out tale from his own life I guess. Every story just crawls to a disappointing conclusion. The audience must have been all friends and family because they laughed and applauded at every damn thing this guy said. I am not sure how long Marc Maron has been doing comedy but I will never, ever attempt another one of his sets. I never heard of him before tonite and if his name ever comes up in casual conversation, I will do my best to dissuade anyone from sampling this waste of time. One star for his charisma. I only wish he knew how to be funny and write real jokes. Please keep away from this, and warn others.
cheap political shots. the low hanging fruits. not even creative. so he is old. and he has a beard. still, that does not make him anything like carlin. and because the impersonation is done so badly, the fans will assume marc maron has his own style. yes, it is too real: and old man feeling sorry for himself.
