You'd have thought Nikola Tesla wasn't the most important person in the world when it came to to post industrial revolution if you watched this as you're only take on history . The reality is the opposite but this film wanted to concentrate on the Americans and ignore the positive input the new immigrant had on the modern industrial world . Yes it was good that Westinghouse got a better expose than normal - more than just an alternative financer to JP Morgan . The highlight was Nicholas Holts acting - widely underrated he come along way since About a boy and Skins . Average concentrates too much on Edison . 5/10 Pad.A
Considering the top quality cast that was associated with this film it really seemed to be lacking in all departments, most of the actors and actresses are some of my favourites but this film was a real let down, it was pedestrian at best, the story could have been so good, but for me it just didn't spark into life at any point, shame as the trailer looked promising, ultimately it was a little disappointing
1. Don't bother if you don't have a good background understanding of the real life events and characters- the film offers you no introductions. 2. There are no scenes per se, just a montage of clips. You bounce from one clip to another, all smushed together without a coherent narrative or timeline. 3. Cumberbatch is yet again stereotyped as the brilliant and bizarre genuis hero of the film. With a bad American accent. 4. The directing and editing is just BIZARRE. Strange use of odd camera angles throughout the whole film, for no reason. 5. Fosters no emotional connection to any of the characters. No reason for the viewer to be invested in anyone.
Sadly this movie doesn't paint Tesla the true genius, we all know he was. Edison stole his ideas, this movie is sadly historically inaccurate, shame it had so much potential to be great with the cast.
Prior to see the movie i have never heard about this fascinating story of conflict and trade between Edison and Westinghouse. I found the story very much interesting and enjoyed every part of this. The whole team must be appreciated for their excellent try to transform this plot into a enjoyable , slow paced drama. There are many small battle which sometimes remain undecided..sometimes goes in favour of either one. With these personal and economic battle the movie moves towards the end. Good to see these type of drama movies in between other type of movies. This is totally different from many other movies of 2017.
To the maker of the movie: Have you ever ever read the history? Why making something that is partially accurate? This movie it's like they are blind on one eye, and with that one open eye they see American, and not Serbian scientist Nikola Tesla. It is fine having as the main character Tomas Edison, but it is not fine telling the story in distorted ways. It got two starts only because of Benedict Cumberbatch, I love that actor truly.
I saw this in a free preview and if I wasn't with my family I would've walked out. The story went all over the place, from person to person, year to year, with sporadic editing that lacked any character depth. Considering it's a film about the invention of electricity, they could've experimented a bit more with the lighting. It could've been a good story, it was just badly told. I kept zoning out. And why does Benedict Cumberbatch keep being casted in American roles when his accent is so blatently terrible? Please don't waste your money on this.
