If your idea of a Holiday special is heaps of cheesey nonsense with awful humour and a bland story you'll love this ... there's singing! If you're looking for a story at the usual level of Marvel story telling and acting look elsewhere. I'm genuinely amazed the actors agreed to be involved with this. It's a lazy tie in with the holiday season to get Marvel a mention in some fashion but it lets down the Marvel story to date and really it lets the actors down too. If the writers put more thought in to this it probably could have been a great short film but it's missed the target and taken the easy pickings viewing figures.
This Guardians of the galaxy special makes Star wars infamous special actually a masterpiece. I wasn't expecting anything and still they managed to disapoint me. This was a completely waste of time, why do Marvel thinks that we as an audience will swallow any piece of garbage they put in front of us and still expect a round of aplause. They are treating their audience like a bunch of idiots. This has nothing interesting, it is not funny, it doesn't leave you with a wholsome feeling. It is forty two long long minuts of nothing. I couldn't stop thinking of many of these actors spending hours getting ready to play their characters, talking about make up, just for nothing. Well obviously their share of money though. I'm giving a 3 stars rating because I feel generous.
This is a really god-awful production that should only be watched once, but that's more than enough. Basically, the movie is two idiots named Drax and Mantis travel to Earth for Christmas and kidnap Kevin Bacon to impress another idiot character. Much like Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, this could have been a great set-up for X-Men in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Kevin Bacon returning triumphantly as a variant of Sebastian Shaw from Matthew Vaughn's iconic masterpiece: X-Men: First Class. Instead, we got a beyond-stupid movie that is far more Disney than Marvel. This really sucked. I'm really done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Wow, what a giant disappointment. This special had none of the charm of the GOTG and GOTG2. And I wasn't even looking forward to this... For starters, there was no real story. Zero character development. The musical choices by the director James Gunn were disappointing. Kevin Bacon, I like the actor, but... why? I just don't understand why this movie was made. It feels like the director didn't have any passion for the project (unlike the other GOTG films). A complete waste of money and time. They could've done anything different and it would have been better. Heck, they could just do a short retelling of Its A Wonderful Life or A Christmas Carol and it would probably be fine. To top it all off, they made Rocket tease ANOTHER Christmas special and say how he is already not looking forward to it, as if they're talking directly to the audience. Like, yes we know, it sucks, stop it!
Try it out

It was how it should be Short, Sweet and Christmas. Guardians were actually trying to figure out what Christmas is and they actually did. It was really bitter sweet to see Kevin bacon in the movie and it just sets between Thor love and thunder and Guardians of the galaxy 3. Just like the previous two guardians movie this movie also had some funny moments, also it does confirm some of the theories that some of the fans might have. Peter quill(chris pratt)was actually good and was a tad bit serious unlike how he was in his previous two guardians movies. Mantis(Pom Klementieff) and Drax(Batista) were the stand outs for me. Also we do see a new addition to the team. Marvel should definitely do more of these one of specials.
So I watched this on a whim and I have to say I was actually blown away - it was an entertaining story that was fun and funny, well-acted and clever and for once in way to long wasn't preachy or divisive like the over-whelming majority of the garbage that is coming out of Hollywood these days. It was great to see some of the secondary characters get lots of screen time and development - absolutely loved Mantis and Drax. And it was great to see Kevin Bacon as himself be funny and a great sport poking fun at the acting profession and just generally being a great guy. The movie had a great message and is very entertaining. You are doing yourself a disservice if you miss this.
