I saw the 9.1 stars (38 people) read all the rave reviews and then found out that most of the 10 stars were one review writers on IMDb. The reviews even sounded alike which was my first clue and why I looked. The other reviews seemed honest, so I think I jinxed myself and expected WAY too much of this movie. First off - it has a lot gratuitous sex in it. I'm not a prude, but tossing in sex scenes on a formulaic schedule, ruins the flow of the thing. The story is "second verse same as the first". You have seen this before, BUT it was well done by some really good actors. I added a star for the supporting cast: Joseph Marcell and Nina Wadia. They were, and always are, awesome, no matter what parts they are playing. Otherwise, 5 stars on a good day. I wish I had read a good book instead.
I'll start with Emily Berrington and Ben Lloyd-Hughes (married in real life) who are both extraordinarily good in this. The movie keeps you guessing throughout, and is a psychological study in good and bad, wrong and right. Beautifully photographed and masterfully directed. For me, the performance by Ben Lloyd-Hughes especially is one that I won't easily or quickly forget. And once you see it through, you'll want to go back and watch it again to see what you missed the first time. Loved it!

The lead was just so pretty, even her mole could not distract how beautiful she was to just watch. Now as far as acting goes, this was a good (But predictable) story that I swear I have seen before. Nothing new or special, but definitely not a time waster. They really messed up at the end, the shirtless hot guy lives and everyone is happy was just too nice of a bow tie. Even though you could predict who the killer was, it was still an interesting ride. Oh, the sex scenes were a bit over the top, so I recommend not watching it around any kids.
I agree with the "Meh" author from July 2022. I have absolutely no idea how most reviewers rated this movie a 10. Or 5+ It's a LIFETIME movie, at best and Lifetime is not my go-to channel to watch. So ... married woman has an affair. He disappears and is presumed deceased, perhaps non-existent. Nope! He exists, then doesn't. Someone is murdered by a mysterious person in black and that event weirdly ties in with the missing lover and a stolen item. I figured out the ending at this point, but that couldn't be THAT obvious with all the 10s. That's all I'll give away. When it ends, you won't be too surprised. What's surprising is the characters' backstories change or are added mid-production. Then all the crazy is tied up at the end in one-big sloppy giftwrapping. Regardless, it will keep you at the edge of your seat because you'll keep thinking "what has this to do with this story and why?"
Ms. Berrington gives a standout performance. Mr. Lloyd-Hughes gives a chilling performance. Assured direction and meticulous production design round out this picture and make it a must see.
This is the first time I've reviewed a film on IMDB. I noticed the film hasn't had much in the way of media promotion so I thought I would help in this small way. I think it would be a shame if this film doesn't receive the attention it deserves. The film is full of suspenseful moments and it had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end! I've been a fan of Samantha Bond's work for several years. After watching Ben Lloyd-Hughes in Sanditon I'm now a fan of his. I think Emily Berrington is very talented and I hope to see more of her in the future in both films and TV.
Great film and very beautifully photographed. Kept me guessing the end. Very enjoyable, with a great performance from Emily Berrington. Definitely worth a watch!
