Ghoomer is well written, well directed, well edited, and well cinematographed movie. And each piece of craft emote something in audience. It's emotionally intense at times, hearworming at others, and funny not because of some throwaway jokes, but because of characters styling and dialogues. Nothing in the movie is frivolous, not a shot is wasted to please certain "kind" of audience. By throwing in romance or songs or adding an extra comedian actor to carry it over their shoulders. It's an R Balki movie, so it was certain that whatever the script might be, direction would be near flawless, and that's absolutely true of the case as well. R. Balki ensures that the story invigorate right emotions in audiences even through a fictional cricket match scene which ran through its course as if it was a historical match in reality ( take any 83 movie refence of a match). Being an R. Balki movie, you can always expect a flashback that would shake you ( even if little, based on how ahead you are in the guessing game). Writer must have known that a story this bold, not only needs to be beautiful and emotionally intense, but shall also serve as a sense of motivation within the realm of reasonable. The Story follows a very taught narration of the main Protagonist ( ANINA) with every side character chipping in to contribute in a effective manner. As the story moves through the family members, not one dialogues, or scenes look either forced or out of place. Entries of new characters in the movies are done so well, that the flow of the entire movie can never be questioned ( unless you really want to nitpick). The actors have done so well in their limited roles. But one man deserves most of the praise, AB Jr. There would be people comparing him to the role of Kabir from Chal De and rightly so, it does give a feel of such kind. But it's much more personal, not just on the Kabir's level but also on the player's level. He don't have to prove anything. And whatever stakes are there in the movie are purely personal. Which for some would be a much better emoter than a patriotic theme of Chak De. A movie done this well, deserves all our love and praise. And you should give it by watching it in your nearest theatre with your friends and family. Buried between the Bollywood crapload, this movie has everything - Good writing, good direction, good acting and good cinematography. It's a wholesome package which don't need the defence in any dept, but just praise.
Ghoomer, a compelling sports drama, truly shows the spirit and the power of determination. Directed by R Balki, the film takes us on an emotional journey into the life of an athlete who defies all odds to achieve greatness in the world of cricket. The film excels in its portrayal of the emotional rollercoaster that Saiyami experiences. The script sensitively highlights the frustrations and determination that shows her true commitment to return her favourite sport, Cricket. Ghoomer is not just a sports drama, it's a tribute to human resilience, the importance of self-belief, and the unconditional support of family and friends. It reminds us that limitations can be overcome with sheer belief, hard work, determination and team work! Just a beautiful story.. Absolute Must Watch!!
A story about the undying spirit of sportsmanship beautifully portrayed through the life of a female cricketer. A great story brought out skillfully by Abhishek Bachchan and Sayami Kher. Abhishek being a coach with many issues and Sayami being a headstrong player with strong opinions, a great dynamic is created between characters, balanced by supporting characters to create a touching yet gripping story that will keep your attention throughout. Combining this with excellent visuals and cinematography, Ghoomer is a must watch in theaters just to witness sheer human spirit and willpower to achieve what is needed. Hats off to R Balki for making this happen.
With pleasant memories of movies like Cheeni Kum , Paa and Padman ,Your expectations from new edition of R. Balki 's Ghoomer are pretty high. Yes he has again nailed it . I was Speechless, emotional, encouraged and charged . Ghoomer is One of the best motivational, uplifting & gripping movie with outstanding screenplay & performances .The director has hit 🎯 the perfect dart on perfect subject ,As in India Cricket fever is in the air with Asia Cup and ICC world cup is round the corner What to say about performances of main leads. Shabana Azmi is very natural and spontaneous Abhishek Bachchan is fantabulous and unstoppable. Saiyami Kher is outstanding 👏, Three Cheers to her .Angad Bedi is surprise package. Everyone in supporting casts is excellent. Take home message from climax is ""You were born to be a player. You were meant to be here. This moment is yours."" I strongly recommend this movie for all genre.
R Balki, the Bachchans and cricket? Bollywood is back, baby! Saiyami Kher, who is an excellent cricketer off-screen too, adds some authenticity to the proceedings. It must have been quite challenging to train for this role, and the hard work pays off. Abhishek is great as the washed up, alcoholic coach and Amitabh Bachchan's extended cameo is geniunely delightful. Shabana Azmi as the witty, sports expert grandma is the most unique character, and I'd love to see more of her. All in all, if you love cricket, you'll love this! And if you don't, it's still a very motivational, emotional story with great performances across the board. You won't regret it :)
A story of hope in adversity! Well crafted, and backed by great acting from the leads as well as supporting cast. What stood out also for me was the nitty details such as the technical dimension of the actual cricketing shots & players being top notch as well. Sometimes in sports based movies, while the story / script are great, the technician aspect of the actors playing the sports is a let down. This film doesn't fall into that trap, so kudos to the great attention to detail by R. Balki. Some dramatic license in the end, but that makes it entertaining I think vs take anything away from the emotional payoff. Must watch! And please try to do so in theatres.
GHOOMER is a very sensibly written and directed movie with above average performances by the junior cast. Abhishek Bachchan,Shabana Azmi and Angad Bedi who did not have very challenging roles were their usual competent selves. However the girl who was the main protagonist and acted as Anina had a very physically challenging role which she pulled off very beautifully. Besides being very pretty with very luscious eyes she must be commended for handling the physical aspect of her role so very well as it was definitely not easy at all to enact that particular role. Amitabh as himself was like a breath of fresh air. All in all a very good movie that benefited from a very good script, editing and screenplay. 8/10.
The film introduces us to Anina, a young cricketing prodigy with a bright future. The story begins with her unfortunate accident that results in the loss of her right hand, just as she's about to make her international debut. The shock and despair of the incident are palpable, but what follows is a story of resilience and determination. A failed cricketer, whose dreams have been shattered and now lives a life of frustration, enters Anina's life. The connection between the two characters is nuanced, with shared dreams and passions bringing them together. Through rigorous and innovative training, he helps her find a new dream and transforms her fate, allowing her to play for the Indian cricket team again, this time as a bowler. The film's central theme, the newly invented 'Ghoomer' style of bowling, becomes a symbol of innovation and creativity, setting the stage for Anina's triumphant return. The portrayal of this new bowling style is a highlight, capturing the essence of the game and the beauty of inventing something unique. Abhishek's performance, though satisfactory, could have been more engaging. His portrayal lacked depth at times, making his character feel somewhat one-dimensional. On the other hand, Amitabh's commentary during the match scenes was a notable weak point, lacking authenticity and the real-life excitement that cricket fans would expect. The predictability of the plot is perhaps the film's most significant flaw. The storyline follows a well-trodden path, with few surprises along the way. This predictability prevents the audience from becoming fully immersed in Anina's journey, as the outcome feels foregone from early on. Despite these shortcomings, the film stands out from many of the uninspiring options currently available in cinemas. Its core message of perseverance, innovation, and the power of belief resonates deeply and offers a refreshing perspective. The cinematography and the musical score add to the movie's appeal, with beautiful shots of cricketing action and soul-stirring melodies that stay with the viewer long after the credits roll. In conclusion, the film is an inspiring yet imperfect portrayal of dreams, determination, and the love of cricket. It's a story that celebrates human spirit and innovation but falls short in execution in some areas. Abhishek's mediocre acting and the lack of surprises in the plot may disappoint some viewers, but the overall message and the unique concept of 'Ghoomer' bowling make it a worthwhile watch. For cricket fans and those looking for an uplifting story, it provides a better option than some of the lackluster films currently available.
