source: Betting on the Bride
Cute, cliche betting scenario turning real but as long as the actors were good and sincere, I like!
This is for all the reviewers complaining that this movie is a ripoff of A Bride for Christmas. Production companies have used recycled scripts for decades, often multiple times. This practice dates back to the early days of radio shows. Please inform yourselves before unfairly castigating the writer.
I am about half way into this movie. And I can not watch anymore. The dialogue is so bad and inane. And the very contrived and cliched scenes are insulting. Simple bad filmmaking: a yoga class is in the middle of doing an eagle pose...just one? ..and then all of a sudden the female lead says "Namaste. Thank you for coming". Yoga classes don't flow, or end like that. And this is one of many examples that come across as cheap and sloppy storytelling, that is all over the place in this film. Each scene is filled with cheesy, cringeworthy dialogue. I am a full romantic. But I just can not with this film. Strong thumbs down.
I've never seen such blatant plagiarism in a movie before. The writer/director even went so far as to steal the exact words!!! THIS MOVIE SHOULD BE REMOVED!
The writing was horrible. The cast, while attractive, had no chemistry. The whitewashing was unbearable. This movie is sad with a healthy dose of tragic.
The incredibly boring poor copy. Why? Did you ran out of stories ? What a waist of time .
It's a bad enough premise to begin with. Offensive actually, especially when combined with all the other misogyny. But this movie is the closest copy to another movie that I have ever seen without actually being a remake. It's actually closer than some remakes. Almost every significant plot point is the same. The girl scouts were the best part of this movie and they brought out a few good laughs. Sadly for me, I kind of liked Karissa Lee Staples and her relationship with Peter Mooney. It's too bad the woman really needs about 5 years of counseling before she's allowed out in public. And he family needs help too. If you can get past the stinky premise, either one of these movies is OK, but not both. PS I don't know if I was clear above that my biggest complaint about the movie is the misogyny and the cruelty, mostly early in the movie. The Bet is not just insulting to women (general) and the woman (Melanie), but the way his boss engineers it and persists with it is even worse. And the attitude of ownership by the third fiancée adds to it even more. The fact that the movie is such a copy of the other one(s) is even worse given how insulting the premise was in the first place. The fact that my rating is as high as it is says a little about how much I enjoyed the interaction between the leads, oh and the girl scouts.
It was definitely a feel good movie...in the same ballpark as How to Lose a Guy in 10 days... If you're a hopeless romantic like me, you'd love it!
