David Cross: Making America Great Again

He's a profesional and isn't out to make sure you stay in your comfort bubble of bland thought. Think of the first time you saw him-probably a cameo in MIB the first. And all those years writing and doing improv with Bob Odenkirk. He's deft at handling his audience and hecklers. He's forever the thinking person's smartass. The McConnaghea impression is priceless. So is the dramatic reading of the Restoration Hardware catalog.

His topics aren't new for him or most comedians but he still manages to find a way to make em hilarious. Im sure alot of these negative reviews are from trump supporters or what not but the sandy hook victims material had me in tears.

I have seen numerous comedians use material from a new special in a late night interview. The whole reason for the late night appearance is to promote a new show, etc.

I only knew David Cross from Arrested Development (which I loved by the way), I had no clue he did also stand-up comedy. So this was his first show for me and even though I thought it was a bit slow in the beginning I quickly changed my mind when I realized what a genious he is. I love sarcasm, it's my favorite kind of humor, but I never witnessed a more sarcastic show as Making America Great Again. Absolutely everything he says is sarcasm, the kind that makes you think about essential things, truths that don't like to be divulged. After reading thirteen reviews on here (12 bad ones and one good one) I'm not surprised at all that so many people hated it. You have to have some intelligence to understand his sarcasm and sadly the world is full of dumb and ignorant people, which shows in the negative reviews. But everybody is entitled to it's opinion, that's how it works. Anyway, if you like sarcasm and if you have a higher IQ than the average caveman there's a high chance you will enjoy this show.

Quite honestly, I didn't feel entertained. I like David Cross but this just didn't do anything for me. A bunch of political and nazi jokes with no real punchline just isn't a good time for me and as great as his beard looks in this, doesn't make up for the lack of humour. Sorry David, just wasn't for me!

The differences between David Cross and Ricky Gervais is that Gervais is honest, smart and funny. If you like the typical bashing of Trump and Republicans by SNL and Stephen Colbert, you'll probably find this mildly amusing. If you are educated and offended by bigotry and ignorance, then move along...nothing original to see here. David Cross alienates half of his audience by targeting them in political 'jokes' and then finishes off the rest by being genuinely not funny. He thinks he's an intellectual, but you'll honestly get more thought-provoking, hillbilly humor out of 'Larry the Cable Guy'. I couldn't tell you if his closers were any good because I fell asleep before them.

When someone suggests that Larry the cable guy is funnier, I have to wonder. From my experience comics evolve, but slowly. They use the same themes but explore different aspects. David Cross is very talented and very funny. Do I like every joke ? No, but I don't like all of the music from my favorite musician either. If you don't like someone's art, then don't buy it. As he says in the show - if you don't like his material then maybe you didn't do your homework about who he is and the kind of material he does.

This review is going to be short and sweet because, to be completely honest, I don't have much experience in judging comedy specials. Usually, standup comedy isn't really "my thing", but if something catches my eye I'll watch from time to time. A few years back, I watched what I think was first comedy routine to be put to film, and I remember thinking it was hilarious. he isn't for everyone, but I'm not too prudish when it comes to humor, so I enjoyed it. As such, I saw this Special and decided to give it a try. What I found, unfortunately, is that it didn't make me chuckle more than a couple of times in an hour.
