This film takes place in Houston with a young prostitute leaving her pimp long enough to give birth to a young baby boy. To that effect, when the pimp finally locates her, he becomes so furious that she reluctantly decides to leave the newborn child in a gutter and drives off. Not long afterward, a young woman named "Jewell" (La Toya Ward) hears the baby's cries and decides to raise the child as her own. Time passes and "Gutter" (Zeno Williams) adapts to the harsh life of the ghetto by joining a couple of friends in the illegal drug business. Yet, even though they become quite successful, they soon realize that their success is like a magnet that attracts others who are more than willing to do whatever is necessary to take everything from them. Now, rather than reveal any more, I will just say that this turned out to be a better film than I initially expected based in large part to the acting of both La Toya Ward and Zeno Williams. Likewise, having a couple of pretty actresses like Dessi Sykes (as Gutter's neighbor "Teiry") and Areal Star ("Lady J") certainly didn't hurt matters either. On the flip side, however, I must admit that this film was not without its faults as it definitely suffered from rather obvious low-budget production values. But even so, I liked this movie for the most part and I have rated it accordingly. Average.
The subject of the film and the premise were fine, but the acting was slightly below average. The story was not straight-forward, and the viewers were victims of a poorly scripted movie. Although I watched the entire film, I wanted to turn it off many times because I got lost in the confusion of the story. I could not recommend this film to anyone without warning them of its shortcomings; however, it will probably score a few points with younger hip hoppers who love the genre.
This movie was a very amazing movie I enjoyed every second if you didn't like it you don't know the struggle of coming up from nothing PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAKE A PART 2 please.
I almost gave up on this movie. Act l: Was sad, and hard to watch. It consisted of 35 minutes filled with angry people yelling at each other. Very little in the way of character development, but at least there was enough to get you through the rest of the movie Act ll: Moved on to the lead characters rise to power in the most unrealistic way possible, by selling drugs in broad daylight in a lovely little suburban neighbourhood. It was like watching a drive-thru at a fast food joint. Not one of the cars in the line up was was over 2 years old. Are you telling me that drug users are driving brand new Cadillac's, Audi's, BMW's, Mercedes, and Porsche's? Enter Act lll: The attempted takeover, and the retaliation. Who didn't see this coming? Technically the biggest mistakes were in the editing of the soundtrack, and cinematography. Some of the dialogue seemed muted, and too hard to hear. There were a couple of scenes that looked cheap, and didn't fit in well with the rest of what was going on in the film. ....so I did make it through the whole thing, but it wasn't anything special. You won't be missing anything if you don't watch it.
This movie is amazing and I love it I love the storyline the characters the plot and everything else I just can't way we can get a Sequel someday And one of my favorite character is Gutter!!!💯💯💯😝😁
Gutter or Gudder was a baby discarded along side of the road and was raised by a junkie. He becomes a drug dealer, making good money when the Italians want to move in. The film was poorly scripted. The poetry and rap was horrible. At times the camera would be still and people would walk out of the screen. Sound wasn't great either. Never really got to know the characters. Waste of time. Guide: F-word. Sex. No nudity.
Mouth stuck like wtf is going on the whole time especially from the beginning. No lie with the right money behind it it could be a lot better but for what it was it was a great eye opener for some real life things going on that people ignore or just don't wanna bring to light. I appreciate those real life backstories. An I always have love for movies in my city Houston. Just a ghetto classic this movie make you sit down with the kids and have real discussions about life. I love the variety of ethnicities as well. It seems like college kids put a movie together. They went everywhere with it but with 2 and 2 making 4 you get the gist of the message.
