kuntilanak 3
mancap
The review title is pretty self-explanatory about what to expect if you're going to watch this movie. While I can see the efforts of the filmmaker to build a "decent" movie set, added with magical CGI; I can't get the horror feel of Kuntilanak 3. Yes, the Kuntilanak will appear and the main character will defeat the supernatural being. Even with the "intense" action and dramatic battle between the main character and the kuntilanak, you can't help but laugh at the absurd storyline and dialogue. Really, the script is the problem, or maybe the shoot, or perhaps the combination of everything else that leads to this bizarre work of Rizal Mantovani.
This movie deviates from the whole franchise. It's almost a Harry Potter movie with Indonesian characters. It comes complete with professors and wands. It's like if X-men and Harry Potter movies had an illegitimate child. The movie is goofy at the best. With ppl casting spells and shooting magic etc. There is nothing much frightening in the movie. Kuntilanak 1 was creative and scary. This move can't hold a candle to it. I would say it's a real let down. The ending is a literally joke with horrible acting. There is even a scene where the "Dementor's kiss" from Harry Potter is clearly copied. For those who are expecting a movie similar to the previous ones my advise is to steer clear.
Wth, try to imagine harry potter's class has an enemy in the form of kuntilanak? What's with the director's mind? Did he ever dream of becoming a shaman and then studying witchcraft at Hogwarts, then studying magic to exterminate demons?
To be fair Rizal Mantovani is an OK director from Indonesia, in the hard time of pandemic surely he need money to pay the bill therefore he accept anything that comes into his table including this utterly meaningless and cash grabbing bs called Kutilanak 3. The plot is shallow, although the young actor is well cast and well trained it just can't pump up the joy from this soulless film. The producer is clearly never read the script, if he was he never have to financed this stinkin garbage in the first place. This is a mistake, the first film is quite starters, but the two sequel really really really drain your soul into six feet under. I don't believe I have time to watch this.
The title says it all. Clearly shown Rizal is not a horror fan. Especially the majestic urban legend of KUNTILANAK. He lacks of everything that horror movie should be. Not sure why he never learned from experience, instead, he keeps doing it. Again and again. Only focus on how the scene looks good. How the angle lightings can be dramatic. How the sfx can be as good as MCU. That's all. It's OK if it's a tv commercial or music video, which is his expertise. But not a movie. Let alone a horror genre. So, unless those factors that you're looking for, stay away. Save your money and your time for something else. Sorry.
I gave it 3 because the CGI is on point!! The lighting is attrocious. Everything is so bright when it should be dark if they want to make a horror movie. The plot is so bad. There's so many plot holes like how can 2 kids go away from their homes and no one looking. Their power is so amazing almost like super heroes power. The siblings are so different that they seemed to be from different fathers. There are 5 siblings. And the mother is old enough to be their grandma. There's a freakin maple tree in Indonesia. The conversation/script are so rigid. Costumes are ridiculous, some using western clothing while others traditional indonesian. To sum it up, the only good thing is the CGI. The concept if polished can achieve such a good movie.
