Both the rating and the trailer are completely misleading. They make it look and sound like there is more going on in the film than it really is. This films is basically 2 old people talking and talking with all the cliches of old people you can imagine. Perhaps not an action movie, but there is absolutely just no substance to the plot. There is no mystery, no intrigue, nothing to really make you care about the characters or the stories. In short, it is utterly completely pointless chattering of the characters with bland sarcasm jokes, and they're lame jokes that barely register a chuckle. Yes yes, old people can't hear. Yes yes old people falls down. Yes yes, bad memory. Yes yes young grandson of this generation is useless. Yes yes ha ha cliches are funny. 3/10.

"Thelma" gives June Squibb and the late Richard Roundtree the chance to deliver a couple of fun performances in the rare movie that prominently features elderly characters without patronizing them. The central relationship in the movie is between a young man and his grandmother, but I saw a lot of my mom in the character of Thelma. She's 81 and in pretty good shape, the usual wear and tear issues of aging aside. She has mobility issues and has said that it would be tempting to sit on the couch all day and watch T. V., but she forces herself to stay active and independent. As a result, she's doing pretty well, and I know that if she had the choice between getting out and about and running the risk of getting injured or overdoing it vs. Wasting slowly away from a sedentary lifestyle, she'd say bring on the risk. I don't blame her, as I think I'll feel the same way. "Thelma" nails what it's like to be children trying to care for an elderly parent. You want to let them be independent, but you also know that anything that happens to them as a result is going to fall on you to handle, so you do things for them instead and caution them against trying to do too much themselves. But then you're taking away the very thing that is helping them stay sharp and healthy, even though you mean well. It's a crappy position to be in, and it's no wonder that studies show people in their 40s have the least life contentment of any other decade. On the other hand, I could not relate at all to the helicopter parenting of the characters played by Parker Posey and Clark Gregg in this movie, as that isn't how I parent at all. Grade: A-

Thelma was exactly the movie I wanted and needed to see. Incredible acting by EVERY SINGLE ACTOR. Excellent writing and editing. The right balance of comedy, care, and bittersweetness. A celebration of autonomy and, seemingly paradoxically, interdependence. From Parker Posey's mental health over awareness to Clark Gregg's white dad vest, Richard Roundtree's earnestness and June Squibb's fabulous performance that includes some great one liners and physical comedy, this movie was a 10/10 for me. My favorite in a while. I laughed out loud a lot, and I cried once. It was a balm to me, who is dealing with elder care.

Ok, so grandma got scammed. But when she finds the address she sent the money to, instead of informing the police, she lies to her grandson, steals his friend's scooter and get it destroyed. They also steal a revolver, from a friend, elderly too, almost shooting her in the process. They end up finding the scammer, but instead of involving the police, so more people can get their money back, she only transfers her part, pointing a gun to the scammer (legally armed robbery), they destroy the PC and consider the mission complete. Like transferring money is easy, especially for people that barely can close ads on a PC. The characters are also cliché, the father, mother and their son just bleah... The dialogs are cringy most of the time, it was just a big waste of time. And all the other reviews with 10/9/8? Give me a break, are you guys paid to do this?!
