Please for the love of all things sacred, STOP trying to remake perfection! You just end up looking like some desperate loser copy cat.
I was totally enthralled with this rendition of Valley Girl. The music selection was spot on and each one so well done. I got goose bumps as they did "Under Pressure". The cast was spot on. Josh Whitehouse was brilliant and I loved his edginess when belting out those 80's classics. I truly hope to see him in future projects. The same with Jessica Rothe. She was superb as Julie and her voice strong and beautiful. I would recommend this movie for a tripindicular journey back to the 80's.
If Logan Paul is anywhere near a film, it's automatically trash! Don't waste your time. If you want to see a real movie, see the original with a real actor; Nick Cage!!! I have spoken!
I didn't watch the original film so I can rate this film itself without comparison it. Firstly, the story is interesting, is tells about teenager girl who tries to choose what she wants in life. I really like that she doesn't want to copy someone's behaviour, she finds her own way. Secondly, the cast is beautiful. Thirdly, the atmosphere of film is made by wonderful 80s music and costumes. So, it's good romance musical.
It bugs me when people say, "they ruined a classic!" when it comes to a remake/reboot. You cannot ruin a classic unless you get rid of the classic. This did not get rid of the original movie, nor did it really even try to remake the original, therefore it did not ruin it. I thoroughly enjoyed this! It was meant to be Julie's reminiscence of the events that made the movie, which I thought was great! Her daughter even calls her out on the musical air of her memories, and that was smart. It was fun, and the musical numbers were a great use of the songs. And now I'm obsessed with the punk version of Crazy For You! It wasn't perfect, because really what's perfect? But it was a very fun take on the movie, and it did not try to really remake the original. Good use of songs, fun casting surprises, and good showing of what happens when you "go against the grain."
I am loyal to the original film so I hesitated and was reluctant to watch the musical; already forming a cynical opinion based on the trailer. I finally bit the bullet and rented this movie on Amazon and like oh my God it's totally bitchin! Loved the music, loved their take on the original, loved the premise of the story being told as a memory of Alicia Silverstone playing the mother of a current teenager, love how they saved the iconic I melt with you song till the end to pay it the homage it deserves, love the cameos from the original! BUT I did not give this movie 10 stars because they left out the iconic line"truly dazzling" (if it's in there and I missed it I apologize but I honestly was waiting for it and didn't hear it). I remember guys in the 80s having much better hair and the roller skating fad died in the late 70s. That said those are very minor gripes. This is a movie that I'll watch over and over and over again!
I dont normally take the time to actually write reviews but I just felt I had to give a public service announcement here and advise to AVOID this movie at all costs! This is quite possibly the worst movie I have ever seen. Actually I only got about 1/2 into it but it was absolutely nothing like the original. I cannot believe this was actually made. Such a shame as the actors are great and have been in previously good stuff, but it is just really bad!
I am so sorry to Jessica Rothe, she is just a wonderful actor. Logan Paul shouldn't even be called a person, all he does is move his poison from one place to the next. From Disney to YouTube to(God only knows why) Boxing. And then I find out he is in movies? Yup, I'm killing myself. Bye world, blame Logan Paul. Seriously though HOW??? I watched one of his YouTube videos and almost(almost) made a plan to hunt him down and end him. The video was less than 2 minutes long.

This musical remake of 80s classic Valley Girl is an absolute blast. Set in the 80s mostly a concerned mother (Alicia Silverstone) consoles her daughter by telling her about her youth in the 80s. The awesome Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) stars as her teen version. She hangs at the mall, beach, etc. With her friends as sporadic, lively musical numbers made if 80s hits rock the screen. Eventually she meets up with a hottie, Randy. He lives in L.A., is a punk singer and helps her to Express herself creatively. They have good chemistry and the film is just plain fun. Although some of the singing isn't top notch it's a entertaining flick that doesn't take itself seriously and neither should you. 8.25/10
